Our Story
SKOL Brewery Ltd (SBL) is a subsidiary of Unibra, a long-standing Belgian family-owned enterprise engaged in the Brewery Industry, Real Estate, and Financial Services sectors.
With a legacy spanning seven generations, Unibra holds exclusive rights to the SKOL brand across Africa. Since its inception in 1964 by Unibra and three partners, the SKOL brand has earned remarkable success and recognition.

Our History
Since its establishment in 2009, SKOL Brewery has continuously expanded its offerings, catering to the diverse tastes of beer enthusiasts in Rwanda. Our commitment to quality is evident in each beer we craft, meticulously made from natural, pure ingredients.
Rooted in Rwanda's vibrant culture and identity, our journey began with the introduction of SKOL GATANU and VIRUNGA. These brands stand as a testament to our dedication to honoring and celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Rwanda.
2009
SKOL Brewery acquires a 51% stake in “Brasseries de Mille Collines,” a brewery with an annual production capacity of 80,000 hl.

2010
The inaugural production of SKOL Malt beer takes place.

2012
Unveiling of the third brand, SKOL Gatanu; SBL secures a 49% share and eventually attains 100% ownership of the Brewery; Sponsorship of the Tour du Rwanda commences.

2013
Launch of the first Virunga beer and Panaché.

2014
Introduction of ‘SKOL Lager’ and beginning of Rayon Sports FC sponsorship.

2015
A significant 27% increase in production capacity.

2016
Another remarkable increase of 48% in production capacity; and Sponsorship of “Fly Cycling Club,” fostering novice cyclists.

2017
Production capacity escalates by 16%, marking SBL's attainment of a 25% market share.

2018 & 2019
Facilitating Rwandan Cyclists' training and competing in Belgium for a month.

2019
Inauguration of the 2nd packaging line.

2020
Launch of Virunga, the first locally produced water packed in returnable glass bottles in Rwanda; and Formation of a continental cycling team.

2021
Introduction of SKOL Pulse; and Launch of an annual scholarship program under the patronage of Mrs. Maïté Relecom, supporting the education of the children of SBL employees studying in secondary and university.

2022
Unveiling of the 500 Rwf million stadium and Official Launch of the Rayon Sports Women Football Team.

2023
Redesigning of SKOL Lager's appearance and the launch of an exciting campaign accentuating the brand's African heritage.

2024
The launch of Maltona 0.0%, a premium non-alcoholic malted beverage; and Virunga Silver, a crisp and refreshing 100% malt beer with no added sugar.
