In a united effort to promote environmental conservation and community well-being, SKOL Brewery General Manager Eric Gilson, together with Nyarugenge District DDEA Mrs. Genevieve Uwamahoro, the President of ORION Basketball Club James MUTABAZI, ORION Basketball Fans, Mageragere Sector Executives, students from College Butamwa, and the local community, on Monday, participated in a special Umuganda dedicated to tree planting. The event was part of the ongoing One Shot One Tree campaign, which aims to contribute to environmental sustainability through extensive tree planting initiatives.
The initiative took place at Butamwa Primary School and College Butamwa, where various tree species, including fruit trees, were planted. These trees not only contribute to environmental conservation but also address pressing community challenges like malnutrition by providing future sources of nutritious fruits. In addition to the planting activities, extra trees were distributed to the community for planting around their homes, furthering the campaign’s impact.
Speaking at the event, Mrs. Genevieve Uwamahoro DDEA Nyarugenge commended the collective efforts and emphasized the importance of such community-driven initiatives in fostering a greener future and the community well-being.
Eric Gilson, General Manager of SKOL Brewery Ltd, highlighted the brewery’s commitment to environmental conservation and community development, stating, “SKOL Brewery Ltd is dedicated to supporting initiatives that promote environmental conservation and community well-being. This is why we have actively engaged in the One Shot One Tree campaign, aiming to plant as many trees as possible with the support of our stakeholders.”
As part of the campaign, SKOL Brewery Ltd pledged to plant 6,000 trees, with 50 trees planted for every goal scored by Rayon Sports Women FC. This innovative approach not only ties environmental conservation to sports but also amplifies community engagement.
James Mutabazi, the President of ORION Basketball Club, the initiators of the One Shot One Tree campaign, expressed his gratitude for the partnership and underscored the campaign’s vision of inspiring sustainable practices through sports and community collaboration.
The students and local community expressed gratitude for being selected as a site for the tree planting initiative, recognizing the long-term benefits these trees will provide in terms of nutrition, shade, and environmental restoration.
This tree planting event underscores the power of partnerships and community engagement in building a sustainable future, aligning with SKOL Brewery’s broader mission to contribute to the country development.
